Senior Support Worker Winterbourne, Bristol (BS16)

Silva Care are currently looking for a new senior support worker to join our hard working and friendly support worker team in Winterbourne, Bristol. Our starting wages begin at £13.07 per hour which can rise to £13.32 after 1 year of service, plus weekend enhancements rates.

Job purpose

To Participate in the management of the service and the supervision of other staff. Promoting a caring environment for the service users through high standards of practice which are conducive to the physical, emotional, social, intellectual, and spiritual needs of the service users. To Ensure that each service user receives care appropriate to their needs and to assist in the implementation of the requirements of the national minimum standards for Domiciliary care agencies, published in accordance with the care standards Act 2000.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Provide emotional and practical support to service users and staff.
  • Help service users to identify and choose their support needs.
  • To assist each service user and, where appropriate their representative or carer in understanding the “terms and conditions” of the care and support offered to cooperate with CQC inspections.
  • Work within and promote the policies and procedures of Silva Care.
  • Keep records and participate in administrative tasks.
  • Provide support, advocacy and information to the individuals we support.

Service User Care:

  • Support service users to actively contribute to the running of their service.
  • Assist in health and safety assessments and follow health and safety procedures.
  • To ensure that the internal and external environment is safe, secure and well maintained and report to report shortcomings to management.
  • Supporting service users to take any prescribed medicine, complying with all medicine policies, including storage, administering and record keeping.
  • Assist service users to maintain their dietary requirements.
  • Assist service users with the management of their finances.
  • Enable service users to achieve independence as far as possible in all areas of their life by providing appropriate information, opportunity, training, counselling and support.
  • Provide first aid services when necessary and if trained to do so.
  • To assist in the provision of information to prospective new service users.
  • To arrange and asses trial assessments and to assist in the decision regarding whether or not the agency is able to meet the personal care needs of any prospective service user.
  • Assist he individuals we support to present themselves as valued members of the local community.
  • Create opportunities for social and leisure activities with service users within the local neighbourhood and wider community.
  • Ensure the rights of the people we support are always protected and respected in the following areas: Privacy, choice, participation in decision making affecting their lives, expression of their own cultural identity, entitlement to service, feedback, on the service they receive and the right to complain, protection of their property, maintain links with family and friends.
  • To foster and maintain good working relationships with neighbours, health and local authorities, GP’s and other professionals involved in service users’ lives.

Staff Related:

  • To assist in the management of team meetings.
  • Be supportive, respectful and empathic to service users, colleagues and visitors.
  • Maintain awareness of the wider service pictures and ensure that the workload is allocated fairly.
  • To assist in the welcome and induction of new staff so that they feel comfortable in their new role and well supported.
  • To delegate duties within the limits of others competence in the absence of the manager.
  • To foster good relationships within the staff team, between staff and service users and between service users. This will ensure a harmonious atmosphere to which the service users are entitled.
  • To participate in the supervision and appraisal of all staff.
  • Participate in rota and duty management.

Any other duties:

  • To maintain a full driving licence valid in the UK.
  • To participate in the duties of the on-call procedure
